Lorpen has scoured the globe to find the most advanced fibres and use these to create socks that defy everything you've known about what you put on your feet. THERE ARE 2 TYPES OF FABRICS

HYDROPHILIC


Natural fabric that pulls moisture away from the foot and keeps the skin dry.

Merino wool is a finely crimped and soft wool with staples (fibre lengths) that are commonly 65 – 100 mm (2.5 – 4 inches) long and less than 24 microns in diameter. The core of a merino fibre is hydrophilic (water retaining), and is breathable. The fine micron diameter ensures it feels soft and comfortable next to the skin. Merino has the ability to help keep the foot warm in winter and cool in summer.

Tencel is a cellulose fibre made from Eucalyptus trees grown on certified sustainable farms. The very fine internal fibre structure of Tencel offers exceptional moisture transport, storage and drying capabilities. It’s extremely smooth surface feels very soft and pleasant to the skin. Tencel is used as the middle layer of our Tri-Layer sock collections where aerobic activities require very effective moisture management capabilities.

HYDROPHOBIC


Synthetic fabric that repels water and keeps the foot from getting wet.

Lycra or elastane is a synthetic fibre (Nylon) known for its exceptional elasticity and elastic memory. Lycra content in Lorpen socks typically range from 5 to 10%. Lycra keeps our socks snug and in place.

COOLMAX® is a branded polyester fibre with channels that very effectively moves moisture away from the skin. COOLMAX® is used as the next to skin layer in our T-Series sock collections where aerobic activities require very effective moisture management capabilities.

T1 socks use a single layer of technical fabric combined with EA. Lycra and Nylon. They are engineered with the same flat-knit toe seam  and arch support that all of our socks have. Typically, these socks use a fibre that provides exceptional moisture management to keep your feet dry and warm or cool depending on the category of sock.



T2 socks combine two different fibres for a more advanced experience. Typically, a layer of hydrophobic fibre is combined with a hydrophilic fibres. The first layer draws moisture away from the foot while the second layer pushes moisture to the outside of the socks where it can evaporate. These socks have a flat knit toe seam with EA. Lycra and Nylon for support. Each sock will use different fibres depending on the weather it is designed for.  Different levels of cushioning and thickness are available depending on the style.



T3 socks are for those who want the most out of their Lorpen sock experience. 3 layers of fibres are used here with different moisture management and warmth/cooling properties to create a the most comfortable environment for your feet. Fibres such as COOLMAX®, TENCEL®, Primaloft® and Merino Wool are typically used together in these socks. Knit with a flat knit toe seam and with EA. Lycra® and Nylon to ensure they stay up on your feet all day long.



T3+ socks represent the most advanced technology we've created. These are designed for extreme weather conditions where moisture and warmth management can mean the difference between life and death. These socks were developed by Lorpen through years of research and testing above 8,000 meters. Lorpen adventurers have used these socks to climb some of the highest mountains in the world where warm feet can mean the difference between a successful ascent or turning back. T3+ socks are hand knit and have an anatomically correct shape for left vs. right feet.  These socks are for those who never want to worry about cold feet again.

T-Series Technology was developed by Lorpen as a way of combining synthetic and natural fibres in a way that would provide maximum warmth in cold weather and moisture management in warm weather.

WARM WEATHER T-SERIES SOCKS   

In warm weather your feet sweat. Wet feet can cause discomfort, fungus, odor, and ultimately hinder performance during vigorous activity. Lorpen has discovered a combination of synthetic and organic materials that wicks away sweat from the skin keeping your feet dry.

Synthetic fibres wick away moisture while a layer of organic fibres draw the moisture towards the  outer layer of the sock. This interaction of Hydrophobic and Hydrophilic fibres helps to create the most advanced sock on the market that keeps your feet dry all day long.

T3+ POLARTEC AND MOUNTAINEERING CLASS

The ultimate sock for the true expedition experience, designed for hard shell mountaineering footwear and extended cold weather. Two layers of Polartec® Power Stretch fabric sandwiching Primaloft® Footwear Insulation in a left and right foot anatomical shape puts these socks on the cutting edge of warmth technology. Tested above 8,000 meters, these socks are as good as it gets.

PrimaLoft® Eco Polyester yarn features a blend of 30% PrimaLoft fibres and 70% PCR materials, providing an environmentally sustainable alternative to yarns made solely from virgin fibre. Used as the next to skin layer in our merino based Lorpen T-Series socks, PrimaLoft Eco® is soft, non absorbing and very effective at moisture transport.

CONSTRUCTION OF A LORPEN SOCK

Each Lorpen sock is engineered with the same innovative technical components to ensure a proper fit and level of comfort. Our award winning socks are then tested by labs in the US to ensure that our moisture management technologies perform to their maximum potential. Our lab tests have consistently proven that a combination of hydrophobic and hydrophilic fibres decreases the time it takes for moisture to be wicked away from the foot.  


  1. Elasticity and adaptability: Lorpen socks are designed to fit each foot size properly, without wrinkles that could cause blisters. The elasticity is created with elastane yarn. The better the elastane yarn, the more durable and consistent the elasticity will be during the sock life. EA. Lycra® is the best elastic yarn on the market. Lorpen uses up to 10% EA. Lycra® in the structure of our socks. This is why our product adapts so well to the foot even after years of use and multiple washings.

  2. The Flat Knit Toe Seam: There is no sock without a toe seam. A cheap sock will have a seam with relief on the inside top of the toe area. A mediocre sock will have it with relief  on the outside of the sock. A Lorpen technical sock incorporates a no relief seam that joins one stitch flat with another interlocking stitch without creating a ridge. This is why we call it stitch by stitch or Flat Knit Toe Seam.

  3. Multiple Density: Every sport activity demands different type of sock thickness and density design. Cushioned areas in pressure points, open mesh in cooling areas, etc. Lorpen technical socks incorporate their own specific density engineering that we call MDK = Multiple Density Knit.

  4. Resistance and Durability: The outer yarn is critical to give durability and resistance to a technical sock. Lorpen uses high tenacity nylon as reinforcement yarn, covering the full sock in T3 and T3+ collections, and reinforcing specific friction areas in the rest of the T-Series ranges so that we assure a long life to our socks. This is why Lorpen socks are “guaranteed for life”.



ANATOMICAL CALF SUPPORT

Traditional knitting processes with needle cylinders create a symmetrical front and back shape in the leg part of the sock. This has proved to be a limitation to adapt the sock to the position in the ski boot and the shape of the leg and the calf muscle itself when skiing.

Thanks to the exclusive T3 knitting technology, Lorpen has been able to obtain a new sock shape that overcomes the symmetrical cylinder limitation: the Anatomical Calf Support.

This unique knitting process not only allows us to layer T3 yarns for improved warmth but to structurally place cushioning in the shin to match the morphology of the lower leg and protect the pressure point against the ski boot.
